Fishing with Mitsos

Have you always wanted to know how the locals catch the fish and the seafood you enjoy at lunchtime or in the evening in the tavernas on Lesvos? Do you love the sea and would you like to spend a day with a local fisherman on his boat on the water?

Mitsos Koularas invites you onto his boat, shows how he goes about his daily business of catching fish and seafood and / or can show you around the Gulf of Kalloni. This is a very special experience and unique on the island of Lesvos!

The boat trip starts at the little harbour of Skamnioudi on the Gulf of Kalloni.

The options:

Night fishing

catching fish with line and laying out the nets

Fishing at sunrise

collecting the nets and sorting the catch

Day fishing

cleaning the nets, collecting shellfish, relaxing and swimming

Tailor made boat trips

eg. sunset cruise, BBQ trips…

You decide which trip attracts you most and what time suits you best.

The boat

Mitsos’ modern fishing boat is 8m long, with a cabin and registered to take a maximum of 10 passengers. On board there is a sonar / echo sounder to check the water depth and to locate the fish.

The catch

The fishermen in the Gulf of Kalloni catch many different types of fish, shellfish and cephalopods: bream, sardines, sole, scorpion fish, shrimp, clams, oysters, scallops, octopus, squid, cuttlefish and more.

The Gulf is still rich in fish, and with a bit of luck, there will be plenty on board when the boat reaches the harbour.

Catering on board

Mitsos will be happy to serve you on board with some mezes - delicious appetizers - perhaps with a glass of ouzo, wine, beer or coffee. After the boat trip, the owners of the nearby taverna "Meltemi" can cook or grill your catch for you.

The price

DiSa-Travel will gladly quote for whatever trip you would like, for groups of up to 10 people. We can look for accommodation in the proximity of the port if you want to stay a little longer or if you don’t want to travel there early in the morning for the sunrise trip. Just contact us to discuss.
