Lesvos by car

There are many ways to the island of Lesvos. We have always enjoyed travelling by car from Germany. We found that the long road through Austria, Hungary, Serbia, Bulgaria and Turkey was a pleasant way to gradually approach Greece and the island of Lesvos and to observe the change of landscape and climate. The journey by car is long, obviously further from the United Kingdom involving another sea crossing, but even with our dog we enjoyed the trip. A slightly faster version leads you via Italy and then by ferry to Igoumenitsa or Patra on the West coast of Greece, before driving to Pireaus for the final ferry crossing to Lesvos. If you are interested in our road experiences, please contact us for further details.

Ferry boat to Lesvos

In summer there are daily departures from the port of Piraeus to Lesvos (11hrs). A faster alternative is from Kavala (8hrs) or if you come from Turkey a short boat trip from Ayvalik (1.5hrs) or Izmir (3hrs).
