Trips in the east

Day trip “The East – Romans and Olives”

Duration including stops:  appr. 8 hours

The trip: We start our tour in Kalloni and drive through the hilly countryside to the southeast. Close to the road are the ruins of the Temple of Messa, in ancient times the most important temple on the island. We visit the temple area then continue, with stunning views to the surrounding mountains and later down to the deep blue and quiet Gulf of Gera. We finally come to Moria - here we gaze at probably the most impressive monument of the island: the Roman aqueduct!  The aqueduct spans a length of 170 meters over a wide olive valley. The three-storey aqueduct is 26 metres high and once had 17 arches, which are unfortunately not all completely preserved. The aqueduct was built between the first and third century AD.

In the village of Moria we also visit the charming little church of Agios Vassilios, which houses a number of precious icons.

Next we head in a northerly direction, along the east coast of the island of Lesvos with amazing views of the coastal villages and the sea. Finally, we say goodbye to the sea, turn inland and head for Agia Paraskevi, a village in the hills above the Gulf. Agia Pareskevi is a charming mountain village in the hills above sea level. The village has long been considered one of the richest in Greece - mainly through agriculture and cattle-breeding. In the village we find some delightful little tavernas in the plateia. It looks like those postcard images of old Greeks sitting around with their coffee or ouzo, discussing the history of the world or politics and playing Tavli. We gladly join them and enjoy an appetizing lunch with many delicious Greek tasters.

After the meal we stop at the edge of the village, where an impressive olive oil museum in a former olive oil factory from the 19th century was first opened in 2006. The building itself is an impressive industrial monument, but also the functional machinery and well explained exhibits are worth seeing. After the museum we slowly return to Kalloni, this time with spectacular views towards the Gulf of Kalloni.

Arriving in the village we sit down in one of the kafenions with an Ouzo or coffee to end our delightful day trip.

Minimum of 2 people required: Start time, meeting point or pick-up from your accommodation on arrangement.

Price for the trip: 54€ per person.

The extra-charge for our 👑 package (Lunch in Agia Pareskevi incl. wine or beer and water, entrance fee to the olive oil museum, coffee or ouzo in Kalloni) is 24€ per person.

Prices for larger groups (>10 people) on request.

Nature trip to the wild horses of Lesvos

This exciting expedition leads us around the northeast and the center of Lesvos. We visit the medieval bridge of Kremasti, the ruins of an ancient basilica and the waterfalls of Man'Katsa. If we are lucky, we will see the wild horses around Mantamados.

In the fishing village of Geni Limani you can enjoy a swim or a late lunch.

Minimum of 2 people required, start time, meeting point or pick-up from your accommodation on arrangement.

Price for the day trip for 2 persons 85 € p.p., for 3 persons 75 € p.p., 4 persons and more on request (Lunch incl.)

Day trip “Mytilini and the Gulf of Gera”

Duration including stops:  appr.  8 hours

The trip: We start our tour in the lively and colourful capital of Lesvos, in Mytilini. We start our little sightseeing tour (about 90 minutes walking time) and see the castle, the old and the new harbour, some interesting excavations, mosques, hamams and churches.

When we leave Mytilini we drive along the east coast to the amazing little beach of Agios Ermogenis. Perhaps you like to swim in the crystal-clear water or just relax at the beach. After a nice break we head to the tiny harbour of Koundouroudia. In the taverna at the waterside you can try some fresh fish or one of the tasty cooked dishes. With the small ferry boat we cross the Gulf of Gera and reach the harbour of Perama. After a pleasant stroll through the village and a coffee in one of the beach bars we return with the boat to Koundouroudia.

Driving along the shore of the gulf we visit the Hot Springs of Gera with its lovely renovated spa. You can enjoy a bath in the spa and in the sea or you just relax in this beautiful location and watch the quiet waters of the gulf. Feeling relaxed we return back to Mytilini.

Minimum of 2 people required: Start time, meeting point or pick-up from your accommodation upon arrangement.

Price for the trip: 55€ per person.

The extra-charge for our 👑 package (lunch in Koundouroudia incl. wine or beer and water, entrance fee for the spa, ferry ticket) is 26€ per person.
