Trips in the center

Day trip “Ancient Lesvos – Gulf of Kalloni”

Duration including stops:  appr. 8 hours

The trip: We start our tour in Kalloni in the centre of the island of Lesvos. We drive west along the Gulf of Kalloni, leave the asphalt road after a short drive and turn inland to the mountains. Even from a distance you can now see the massive rock of Issa.  Issa was the daughter of King Makar and her face cut into the rock is one of the still widely unknown highlights of Lesvos. Around the rock massif you may detect further remains of ancient buildings. For some people, this place is a spiritual place of power.

We continue now along the Gulf and reach Parakila. Here we briefly visit the women's cooperative, where they offer in a pretty little shop many homemade sweets and other treats. In the lovely garden of the cooperative we sit down to enjoy a Greek coffee and try some of their sweets.

The landscape becomes more rugged as we approach the tiny fishing village Apothika, the road always offers great views of the Gulf. At waterfront we stop and see some former alum ovens. Alum is a mineral salt that was used for the manufacture of leather and skins, but also for medical purposes. The ovens are still in good condition and from here we have a nice view to the small fishing harbour of Apothika and the little island close to the beach.

We head now to the wall of King Makar. The wall was built approximately 3000 BC and a large part of it is still very well preserved. The building is impressive and gives evidence of great ancient architecture. Around and above the wall we can find further remainings of ancient cultural sites and buildings.

In Apothika we sit down in a lovely taverna right at the harbour and enjoy a tasty lunch. After the lunch break we drive a little bit further to a small, idyllic beach, where we can bathe or just relax a bit.

The return trip proceeds again along the Gulf of Kalloni until we reach Kalloni and the end of our trip.

Price for the trip: 49€ per person.

The extra-charge for our 👑 package (ride in 4x4 car or standard car, coffee and sweets in Parakila, lunch in Apothika incl. wine or beer and water) is 18€ per person.

Prices for larger groups (>10 people) on request.

Minimum of 2 people required: Start time, meeting point or pick-up from your accommodation on arrangement.

Day trip “From Gulf to Gulf”

Duration including stops:  appr.  8 hours

The trip: We start our tour in Kalloni, at the Gulf of Kalloni. We drive along the salt pans and – with if we are lucky – see some flamingos. We reach the temple of Messa, which was in ancient times a sanctuary and was used as a cultic meeting point in the center of the island. When we finish our visit there we continue to Lambou Mili. After a pleasant 30m walk we reach the amazing Roman aqueduct, which is idyllically hidden in the pine forest.

We continue to the quiet water of the Gulf of Gera. In the lovely spa we have the chance to bathe in the hot springs or in the sea.

In the tiny village of Agios Dimitrios we stop for a tasty lunch in one of the authentic tavernas and enjoy local delicacies.

We drive through the shady pine forest at the slope of Mount Olympus and reach Pessa. A lovely 20m walk will take us to the waterfall. The creek has much water, even in summer, with sapphire green and turquoise pools, ideal for a quick bathe. We rest some time here, listening to the frogs and watching the many butterflies and dragonflies on the water.

Along the coast of the Gulf of Kalloni – also called Aristoteles Lagoon – we return to our starting point. In Kalloni we finish our trip in one of the local kafeneons with an ouzo or a coffee.

Minimum of 2 people required: Start time, meeting point or pick-up from your accommodation upon arrangement.

Price for the trip: 55€ per person.

The extra-charge for our 👑 package (Entrance fees to the temple and the spa, lunch in Agios Dimitrios incl. wine or beer and water, coffee or refreshment in Kalloni) is 27€ per person.

Prices for larger groups (>10 people) on request.
