"Our" beaches

West

Faneromeni Beach is a couple kilometers north of Sigri, easy to get to by car and wild when the wind blows from the North. On really hot days on Lesvos it is often cooler here. The long sandy beach is perfect for a walk along the sea – at the northern end of the beach you find a beautiful little church, carved in the rocks. A little café bar at the beach provides drinks and sometimes some food.  Location

East

Tsonia Beach is on the East coast of Lesvos: You will be fascinated by the red sand and the amazing crystal-clear water. If you are lucky, you will have the chance to see dolphins jumping from the sea. A beach taverna provides a good variety of food and drinks. Free sunbeds and umbrellas are available for customers of the taverna. Location

North

Ambelia Beach on the North Coast is a lovely sandy beach (with a nudist area at the eastern end) with clear water. A summer taverna with friendly owners offers good traditional Greek food. Free sunbeds and umbrellas are available for customers of the taverna. Location

The long sandy beach of Gavathas, near Antissa, has very shallow waters and a lovely picturesque little island in swimming distance. The beach is perfect for families with children – although quite remote. Location

South

Vatera Beach, south of Polichnitos, is the longest beach on Lesvos. About 8km of fine sand and pebbles offer peace and quiet in some areas, while other parts can be lively and busy, especially in summer. In these areas you will find many cafes, tavernas and bars. Free sunbeds and umbrellas are available for customers of the taverna. Location

Melinda Beach, west of Plomari, is in a lovely bay of smooth and colourful pebbles with crystal clear water. A few fish tavernas above the beach offer delicious fresh fish and seafood, as well as traditional dishes. Free sunbeds and umbrellas are available for customers of the taverna. Location

A narrow, but asphalted, small road leads to the small coastal hamlet of Tarti. The picturesque bay with a sand and pebble beach is probably one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. Even in summer not many tourists find their way to Tarti – although it is definitely worth visiting and maybe staying for a while. We like it best at the eastern end of the bay where the ‘Taverna Sebastian’ is situated.  We have eaten well there a few times and had a nice chat with the owner Stratis (who speaks a little English). Stratis is a great nature lover and knows a lot about the flora and fauna of Lesvos. Customers can use the sunbeds in front of the taverna for free.  Taverna Sebastian also has a few simple rooms to let behind, in case you feel you cannot leave at the end of your meal and swim!

The rocky edge of the bay is excellent for snorkeling in the crystal clear water. We have never experienced any current in the bay. Location
